Blog tour: Estella's Revenge

Welcome to the blog tour for Estella’s Revenge by Barbara Havelocke!

More about the book…

You know Miss Havisham.

The world's most famous jilted bride.

This is her daughter’s story.

Raised in the darkness of Satis House where the clocks never tick, the beautiful Estella is bred to hate men and to keep her heart cold as the grave.

She knows she doesn’t feel things quite like other people do but is this just the result of her strange upbringing?

As she watches the brutal treatment of women around her, hatred hardens into a core of vengeance and when she finds herself married to the abusive Drummle, she is forced to make a deadly choice:

Should she embrace the darkness within her and exact her revenge?

More about the author…

Barbara is an international bestselling author, whose psychological thrillers have topped Amazon and Kobo.

Her writing career started in journalism, interviewing the real victims of crime - and the perpetrators.

The realistic, complex characters who populate her fiction reflect this deep understanding.

When not writing, Barbara is found walking her two dogs, Scamp and Buddy, or taking photos of wildlife.

My impressions…

It was love at first sight, from the cover to the synopsis. And when I started reading… wow! Not very eloquent, I know, but this novel took my breath away.

My memories of Great Expectations were far enough in the past to be able to read the story of Estella with fresh eyes and little expectations, if you’ll excuse my pun.

The narrative is split in a dual timeline, which does a great job of leaving you always wanting for more. We move between the past, where Estella is a child being raised by the infamously bitter Miss Havisham, and the present, where she is a new bride to an awful and calculating man.

While Estella might not be a likeable character, she is a complex and strong woman, one I rooted for. After years of being manipulated into becoming an instrument of vengeance against all men, what the author imagines her destiny to be is short of epic.

Three words to describe it. Unforgettable. Dark. Unexpected.

Do I like the cover? It is stunning, yes!

Have I read any other books by the same author? Not yet. It’s a pleasure for future me!
